Menlowe Ballet (Audition #3):
I wasn’t able to make the usual audition since I was out of town on a business trip but thankfully the company offered for me to take a class the Artistic Director taught. The class was held at Berkeley Ballet Theater which I had never been to before.
The morning of the audition my mom and I drove up to the studio with hardly any traffic… very thankful! As soon as I got to the studio location I panicked a bit since the sign for the school was no where to be found, but only a theater! After yelling a bit at my mom’s GPS, Chives, I decided to finally park the car and walk towards the theater to search for the studio. As I stood in front of the theater I met another dancer that so happened to be going to the same place. She disappeared off to the side of the theater. I decided to follow her down this alley way until I saw a sign that read Berkeley Ballet Theatre. I HAD ARRIVED AND WAS ECSTATIC! After I was inside I had to make an emergency stop to the ladies room. I was very thankful again to see that dancer because she came out of the ladies room and I ran in. As I came out I passed the Artistic Director… okay this was a little awkward.
The class was an Intermediate/Advanced Ballet Class for adults. The age range and levels of the dancers were all over. As the class progressed I felt I was doing pretty good. I pushed myself to show off my best and kept a good attitude. As I was doing a turn on pointe in the centre though I fell on my butt. OUCH. I had two choices: 1. Shrink inside, have no confidence, and decide that the Artistic Director does not like my dancing or 2. Smile and continue to dance and show that even if I fall down I do not stay down. I stuck with the 2nd option and continued through the class. After class they said they’d contact us in a week. My mom mentioned on the car ride home that the rest room I used was actually a men’s rest room. WOW… hit me. I passed the Artistic Director as I was coming out of the men’s restroom. Hmmm… Hope that isn’t a strike against me! LOL. Hilarious! I did hear back and found out I did not make it into the company. Again, bummed but happy I auditioned. Audition #3 a success!
